In December 2017 the Hong Kong government presented the Hong Kong Smart City Blue Print. By adopting the measures set out in this Blue Print Hong Kong should be turned into a world-class smart city. The Environment & Energy Business Council (EEBC) of the European Chamber of Commerce presented in April 2018 a position paper with a review of the measures proposed to create a Smart Environment in the Blue print and concrete recommendations on how to make Hong Kong more sustainable. The Chairman of the EEBC, Tom Uiterwaal, will present the views and visions of the European Business Community on how to make Hong Kong a world-class sustainable smart city.

    Tom Uiterwaal

    Tom Uiterwaal is the Founder and CEO of Reconergy (Hong Kong) Ltd., active in the Waste-to-Energy industry both in Asia and Europe. Reconergy is focused on the UCO and biodiesel trade and turning Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) into green electricity. Tom has been active in the Waste-to-Energy industry in Asia since 2008. Before Tom moved to Asia he worked for 12 years with CARGILL, the biggest food ingredients company in the world, in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Tom is also Chairman of the Environmental & Energy Business Council of the European Chamber in Hong Kong. Reconergy is the proud winner of the 2017 Cathay Pacific Shooting Star award.
