COVID caused global alarm of blood supply shortfall as voluntary blood donations dropped and delayed. However, patients requiring blood transfusion due to emergency and chronic conditions cannot wait.
Swedcham is supporting AmCham's drive to improve, unite and connect the community, and we hope to raise awareness on the urgency of optimizing blood supply in Hong Kong; to spark discourse and encourage our partners to include blood donation day into their CSR activity plan of their organization.
The blood drive on September 2nd will feature both a seminar with the topic "CSR plan in COVID – How can we support the shortfall of blood donations?" as well as an opportunity to donate blood at the Red Cross Wan Chai Donor Centre during (15:00 – 18:00).

CSR plan in COVID – How can we support the shortfall of blood donations?
It is our great honour to have invited Dr. CK Lee from Hong Kong Red Cross to share insights on the local situation of blood supply management and the process of arranging blood donation CSR activities. Dr. Edmond Ma & Angela Chung from Children's Thalassaemia Foundation will also share with us the needs from local patients' perspective. Maggie Lau, AmCham Future Leader 2022, will also share her story as a long term blood donor.

BLOOD DONATION EVENT DETAILS
The art of maintaining the dynamic balance on supply and demand of blood is never an easy job – blood donations have a short shelf-life while demand of blood can never be predicted (due to critical medical needs in emergencies). Challenges amass when we not only face an aging population, but also the hard hits from the prolonged pandemic.
